"My one man band is over"
February 20, 2015
We've reached the twentieth post in this series as I listen through our cd collection. And I'm close to the end of the first row of fourteen. This project may occupy more than 2015!
I wish Belle and Sebastian's songs had been there in my late adolescence and early twenties. They would have fit my romantic, lonely moods. I can imagine that had I owned these albums in 1996, say, I would have worn them out.
I appreciate the poetic lyrics--such as
You've been used, you're confused
Write a song, I'll sing along
Are you calm? Settle down
Soon you will know that you are sane
You're on top of the world againor
I said "My celibate days are over"
You put me straight on the finer points of my speech rehearsed
In the mirror of my steamy bathroom
Where the lino tells a sorry story in a monologue
--and on Tigermilk, in particular, the production is full of interesting sounds, catchy tunes, and melancholy chords.
